Hello! I’m posting on a day I don’t, typically, to let you know that I am now open to tarot readings. You can find the information here, which includes a link to the form and some alternate ways to pay for the commission.
As you might notice, I will accept payment in two ways. You can pay me, which is, you know, the typical way. Or you can donate to an aid organization from the list I provide and email me with proof of that. At the moment you get a pretty hefty discount if you go that route, so please consider it!
I don’t actually celebrate the 4th very much anymore. Apart from reasons, it’s the anniversary of a death in the family that hits very hard.
So really for that reason, more than anything else, the blog is taking the week off from a formal post.
This is to provide the prerequisite cat photos.
As may come as no surprise to you, I’m taking this week off a bit. No worries: something’s already in the queue for next week, and I’m working on something now. In a sense really I took last week off, I suppose.
Enjoy this picture of my cat in lieu of words this week:
Continue reading “Winter break”I was driving recently and listening to a podcast that features “Pagan music.” That’s both music by Pagans and music with Pagan themes or interest. One thing that struck me is that a lot of overtly Pagan music is very literal. It’s basically like Christian rock: they’re both just talking literally about these symbol-systems and experiences that you have to undergo to understand. That doesn’t mean the songs are obscure, just that sometimes they’re a little too on-the-nose. If we’re literally out here on the full moon (just passed) doing magic, it’s not weird to want some music that instills a sense of mystical wonder. So here are a few songs that I feel create that kind of mood. They’re all magical in one way or another, but they don’t just say “we’re doing magic on the Sabbath” (I have literally heard songs that do that).
So did you see A Wrinkle in Time? You should do that, if you haven’t. I’m not going to tell the joke about you going and doing that, because it would take a while, but if you haven’t, consider it something to do. I wanted to write something about the film and the book, since I basically grew up on the latter. In a couple of odd ways, the film is actually better.

In which we finish our reading of Muse’s The 2nd Law! Here’s the previous part, if you missed it. Let’s get to it!
Here’s a late-night album I’m fond of. My partner got me into Muse quite by accident. She never really pushed anything at me. She simply listened to Muse, and I wondered who wanted to be Queen so badly (this is a joke, but based on reality: Muse is quite vocally indebted to Queen. Who wouldn’t be?). I’ve chosen The 2nd Law for a very simple reason: it’s the album I know best. Between “Supremacy” and “Panic Stations” I knew more than other albums right away.
